Jack's First Cold
Jack caught his very first cold this week. He caught it from me because no matter how hard I try, I can’t stop lovin’ on him. Poor little guy— he now feels yucky because his Mommy has no self-restraint! (I think he would have caught it anyway, since I spend so much time breathing on him every day, but you know… if I can blame myself for something, I will.)
He had a slight temp of 99 degrees, the same post-nasal drip that I had, and some projectile vomiting. The NICU had said a temperature of 100.4 or more was pediatrician-worthy, but I called their office just to make sure. The pediatrician’s nurse got on the phone and surprised me by saying because of his age, they DID want to see him, and right away.
She freaked me out a little with that, so I called Brian, who was stuck up in Kansas City. I don’t like traveling with Jack on my own just yet, but I had no choice— we high-tailed it into the doctor’s office. The doc, unlike his nurse, wasn’t at all concerned about those symptoms and wasn’t quite sure why I was there. I was so out of it that it didn’t occur to me to throw his nurse under the bus, so I’m sure I looked like an overprotective mother. Oh well, better safe than sorry, anyway.
I also asked them to weigh him, and he’s now 12 pounds and 2 ounces! He’s gained another two pounds since we were there last month. Yippee! He’s also about 23 inches long. Such a big, strong boy!
