Fun Day Out

Train delivering food at Fritz's

We had the most awesome day out! We enjoyed lunch at a neat little restaurant exclusive to KC that delivers your food via overhead trains (video below).

How cool is that?! Jack was completely enthralled watching the trains run back and forth overhead. (Of course, we didn’t bother with the cute little conductor hat they gave us because we know he gets a little violent if you try to put something on his head. Probably from all those weeks in the NICU when the nurses tried to put hats on him that were too small. Every time we’d leave the room and come back, he had somehow managed to get his hat off. *snicker* He was probably sitting there thinking that losing most of the heat through your head is a myth*, so quit with the hat already! )

Fritz’s Railroad Restaurant

Then we went to the Wonderscope Children’s Museum. What an awesome place! We’d never been there before. It looks like an old school converted to a museum—it has dozens of classrooms full of different arts, crafts, activities, etc.

One room was completely full of “raceways” where you can drop golf balls so kids can experiment with objects in motion, gravity, and energy. Obviously, he didn’t care about any of that, but throwing golf balls around? FUN!

He had a BLAST in their toddler room, too.  Pirate ships and clubhouses and wavy walkways? So awesome!

Spirals!

"All Done!" with this one!

This one he just chucked instead of keeping it on the track. Heh.

Ahoy! Cap'n Jack at the wheel, matey!

A fun test of balance!

He had more fun there than he’s had at Monkey Bizness & Little Monkey Bizness, so the museum’s going to be our new play area of choice.**

* Jack was a preemie and had trouble regulating his body temperature, so he really did need the hat. And even if he wasn’t a preemie, I still think newborns should have hats on their heads whenever possible. So don’t send me any frickin’ hate mail, Mommy Nazis!

** I thought Little Monkey Bizness rocked when it first opened a few weeks ago. It has more stuff for Jack’s age group but is a complete and utter disappointment since they’re only open on the weekends for open play from 9 am – noon because the rest of the day is reserved for parties. Everyone knows 9 am – noon is a perfect time for a toddler. NOT. What’s with these play areas only catering to birthday parties? Might it be the $400+ they make on those damn parties?! Why is a 2 or 3 year old having a $400 birthday party? Don’t get me freakin’ started. Grrrrrr.) Anyway. My money will go towards the museum and NOT Monkey Bizness anymore, thank you very much.

I’ve never been to a children’s museum, but my Mom SO badly wanted to figure out how to generate funds to open one up here – she says they’re awesome! It sounds like a fabulous place!

We have a lot of free services for toddlers in my community, including two munchkinlands that are open at differing times so they’re awesome for accomodating schedules. I know I can never make the story time at the library because Claire is napping (or just up from a nap). She naps later than Callum did at this age, it’s a bit of a bummer because I know they would just love storytime.
