Good news … finally!

The results of my 3-hour glucose tolerance came back, and I do NOT have gestational diabetes! Hurrah! That’s one less thing to worry about. ;-)

I told Brian of course I don’t— my body is a sugar processing MACHINE. Their stupid little 100 grams of sugar in the glucose drink didn’t even phase me— a normal person would be bouncing off the walls and/or about to puke after drinking all that sugar, but I just went out to the car and took a nap. Bwah!

It’s a damn good thing I don’t, because I never would have given up chocolate! They would have had to give me insulin shots. Snicker.

On the flip side, my blood pressure still hasn’t gone down at all, so that’s a bummer! The doctor at Midwest Perinatal (where I get my ultrasounds) is going to override my OB and wants me to ditch the Aldomet and start taking 600 mg of Labetalol (as opposed to the 400 I’m on now. He said we could go up to 1200 mg if we need to— eeeeeek!)

I told him I have no problems with that, considering I don’t trust my OB, anyway. So I’ll start that tonight and see how THAT goes. I have to start seeing HIM every two weeks now, too, to make sure baby is okay while they experiment with my meds.

Any time your blood pressure is high during pregnancy, they worry about compromised oxygen and blood flow to the placenta, resulting in a small, underweight baby, but Jack is thriving in there! He’s in the 57th percentile and is about 3 pounds, 5 ounces! He’s extremely active… moving around and kicking, and we even saw him chewing on something (hell knows what!) He’s also practicing breathing movements already, which means he’s ahead of the curve on that one, too. Maybe he knows he’s coming early?

Here’s the latest sweet little ultrasound photo of Jack! It looks like his face is bathed in moonlight, doesn’t it? His head is on the right, in side profile, and that little circle is him getting ready to stick his hand up to his face.

He’s just so precious. Can’t wait until the 22nd when I get to have the 4-D done!

Up, up, going up…

Blood Pressure Chart

Blood Pressure Chart

Ugh, my blood pressure is still climbing. Yesterday at the doctor’s office it hit 180/100. After lying down for a few minutes, it “dropped” back to 160/100, but still… the OB finally decided to do something about it, and is adding the medication Aldomet back in to my pill regimen (on top of the 400 mg of Labetalol). All in all, a pretty hefty dose of meds!

I have an ultrasound scheduled for Friday morning, so we should know by then whether the Aldomet is going to have an effect on lowering it or not. She said there were still two other meds to try, but basically warned me that I REALLY need to be on bed rest.

Like the doctor before her, she said the best case scenario is being able to hold it off until 34 weeks. That’s less than 5 weeks from now— that’s the week of May 12, people!!!

*panic!*

Don’t get me wrong… I knew he was coming early, but to have the doc say he’ll be coming THAT early and that’s BEST CASE is causing me to panic. Up until yesterday I really thought I had a chance of making it to 36 weeks if I took it easy. But the reality of the situation is that if my blood pressure jumps just a LITTLE bit more, I could be hospitalized and/or have an emergency C-section AT.ANY.MOMENT.

What a happy thought, eh? THAT definitely helps me to relax! NOT!

Round 2. And I do mean ROUND.

This week marks 28 weeks, or 7 months! Has it really been a month since I posted those last preggy pics?!! I guess that would explain the unbelievable increasing girth, eh?!

Behold the 28-week Buddha Belly:

And just in case there’s any doubt, here are the side-by-side comparisons evidencing the fact that I am becoming more and more rotund:

And no, it’s not your imagination— I’m swelling elsewhere, too, including my face, unfortunately. Which I think is temporary. But more on that later. Right now I’m still laughing about how huge I am! None of the maternity shirts that I bought two months ago really fit anymore… they BARELY cover my burgeoning belly. And you should see how tight all my non-maternity tees are across my midsection! It’s hysterically funny. Bwah!

All work and no play because Jack’s a very spoiled little boy!

Captain of Your Heart

Captain of Your Heart

Sorry I haven’t been posting. My big fat preggo ass has been working. I worked all weekend, in fact. I have three (yes, count ‘em— THREE) web design projects I’m working on. I have no effing idea what possessed me to take on so much work when I really should be taking it easy (third trimester starts next week)!

Truth be told… my insatiable desire to purchase Every.Baby.Product.Ever.Made is what possessed me. And I do mean possessed.

Within the past five days alone, I have purchased all of the following:

  • and a bunch of smaller stuff I’m not going to link… like Butt Paste. Seriously. It’s called Butt Paste. But it’s supposed to be the best diaper ointment on the market. Heh.

Close to $500 by now. That’s $100 per day, folks! At this rate, I’ll be bankrupt by June! Bwah!

So yeah… you can see that I need to work, and work a lot. Because that isn’t even the big stuff. I still have to get the play yard and the bassinet, both of which are going to set me back a couple hundred each. Not to mention the rest of the stuff on both of my registries, which I’m going to be steadily chipping away at the next few weeks.

It’s going to crack me up when the Baby Shower That Won’t Really Be A Baby Shower happens on May 10th. I may very well be the first momma-to-be in history to agree to a baby shower KNOWING that everything I need will already be bought and paid for by the time they have it.

What the hell, though… there are less than 89 days to go, people! Snicker!

It’s finally spring!

Yay, spring is finally here! It has seemed like an especially long winter. It’s been consistently above 55 degrees for the past week, so I’ve been spending work breaks sitting on the back porch reading magazines. What a rough life, eh? ;-)

In other news, Jack has been extremely active the past few days— right on target with the iVillage projections. So much so that Brian was finally able to put his hand on my tummy and feel him move. YES! We were both pretty excited about that.

He was asking what it felt like, but I can’t really explain it. Most of the time it’s odd but pleasant, like a big worm moving up and down and all around. Every once in a while, though, he kicks me hard enough to make me gasp. Not really out of pain as much as surprise. My body is no longer mine, that’s for sure. I’d say it’s definitely time to print up the “Pregnancy is like getting your ass kicked from the inside” t-shirt.
