Here’s a cute video of Jack loading his dump truck.

I’ve added a video category to the blog. You can access it from the top of the page, the “Quick Links” box on the right-hand side, or the Categories box on the far right side. And if you’re savvy, you can subscribe to that category’s feed.
Now that we’ve finally gotten around to importing video of Jack into iMovie, we should be posting more and more videos of him! I’ll try to keep them short and sweet.
You probably already saw his birthday video, and by now you should have seen video of him walking below, but I’ve added a new video of the first time Brian gave Jack a bath. (He was 11 months, hahahahahaha!)
I’ll work on getting more and more video up as time allows.

Jack took his first steps on May 21. Within two weeks, he was pacing up and down the long hallway upstairs, almost as if he knows practice makes perfect. He’s so focused and determined. And I can’t believe how fast he is progressing! He still stumbles a lot, especially when he’s tired, but he is getting SO GOOD at it!
I caught about 30 minutes of tape one day, and edited it down to just 5 or 6 “highlights”.
I’m so proud of him.

Today we went back up to Children’s Mercy to talk to Dr. Demarco, who is a kidney stone expert. Dr. Gatti the urologist thought there may have been a stone present in Jack’s right kidney, so he wanted Dr. Demarco to look over his medical records and previous ultrasound to see what, if anything, had to be done next.
Dr. Demarco doesn’t really think it is a stone, just maybe some sediment left over from his first bladder infection, in which case he will expel it naturally on his own. We’re going to do a follow up ultrasound again in a couple months just to check on it, though. All clear for now!
Children’s Mercy is so awesome, though. You can kind of see from the photo how brightly colored the walls are, and how kid-friendly the entire hospital is.
I REALLY wish they had pediatricians there, but alas, they do not! Hmpf!
Sidenote: Here’s a photo of Jack on the way home. He has apparently decided that he doesn’t like shoes and socks.

As much as Jack has always loved water, I couldn’t wait for the temps to hit 80+ degrees so we could try out our little baby pool! I figured he’d love it!
Ummm… no:
He couldn’t get out of it fast enough! We even waited 2 or 3 hours until the water warmed up so it wasn’t so cold. But nope. Not interested.
A friend of mine told me it looked absolutely terrifying, like the hippo was trying to eat him. <snicker> I don’t know that that was the case, either, but who knows.
Glad I bought the cheapie one and not the big expensive one! Eeek!

This weekend we went to Prairie Park Nature Center, which is a cool little place in Lawrence that we’d never been to. It’s pretty neat—they have lots of indoor nature exhibits, like frogs, snakes, bugs, spiders, birds, and even a prairie dog. Outside they have birds of prey like owls, a turkey vulture, a golden eagle, and even a bald eagle named Kansa.
Jack wasn’t really all that interested in the animals. (We have three at home—big DEAL.) He did have fun playing in their little preschool playroom:
But as usual, his favorite thing to do was push his stroller around:

Today is Wednesday, so what does that mean? Mommy’s day out with Jack! I really look forward to these because he is becoming so much more fun. It’s cool to scope out places and find little things that will keep him amused.
This time we went to Broken Arrow Park, where I finally put him in one of the little toddler swings. Which didn’t seem too stable to me, so I hovered, and only swung it a liiittttle bit in case he leaned forward and the seat shifted. But what else is new? I always hover.
He had more fun walking around and around the park bench while I chatted on the phone with my aunt, anyway!

We have the dumbest cat on the face of the earth.
Pismo can scale a 6-foot privacy fence with ease, but a 36″ tall baby gate is absolutely insurmountable.
And here is a photo of Jack and Cheeto both essentially looking at Pismo meowing behind the gate and thinking “What the hell is WRONG with you?!”
Somebody has a new favorite toy!!! It’s called a Push Around Buggy, and he LOVES it.
At first he wasn’t too sure what to make of it, but he caught on to the steering wheel right away.
It can be used indoor and outdoor, and while it is kinda loud on concrete, it’s not too bad. We’ve already had it out two or three times for a test run up and down the street, off-roading through the bumpy yard, and up and down the driveway over and over again while mommy trimmed the willow tree. Pretty cool!
It’s funny, too, because he always turns around and looks at me (no matter who is pushing) to make sure I’m watching him, and then he gets this biiiiiiiiiig smile on his face. Hee! And if you stop pushing, even for a second, he bounces up and down in the seat impatiently like “Come on, mom… come ON!”
So cute!
