Preggo

Ever since I found out I was pregnant back in late October, I stopped posting over here. Too much extra work! When and if I ever get some free time, I'll integrate my public and private blogs. Until then, though, leave a comment with your email and I'll get you hooked up. :-)

So much for excellence...

Marion Jones pleads guilty to lying to a federal investigator about taking banned substances.

GodDAMN it! I have always admired Marion Jones, and I not only believed her when she denied it but believed IN her as an athlete.

I guess this poster on my desk that I've looked at every day for the past 3 years means DICK now. I am so fucking disappointed right now, you have no idea.

Emmyone...?

If anyone happened to tape or Tivo the Emmys and would be willing to either copy or loan me theirs temporarily, I would be eternally grateful. I forgot it was on and completely missed it— ugh! I'll of course cover all shipping costs. Let me know?

NFL Suspends Vick Indefinitely

I was thrilled to hear that Michael Vick was suspended indefinitely without pay from the NFL, and even more so to hear the NFL Commissioner say "Your admitted conduct was not only illegal, but also cruel and reprehensible. Your team, the NFL, and NFL fans have all been hurt by your actions."

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary worked hard to make that happen, so in celebration and gratitude, I just had to sponsor this little girl, who has bad allergies just like Cheeto. Poor baby.

It's heartbreaking to read all the stories about why the dogs were given up or how long they've been waiting for a home, but at least they're in good hands now. I love everything they do for animals. (Read this story about Best Friends invited Patricia Simonet, an applied animal behaviorist, to the sanctuary to assess how they might reduce the dogs and cats' stress levels. It's amazing.)

One of these days I'm going to fly down there myself for a visit. I think it'd be a perfect little mini vacation.

Happy Birthday Weekend

We had a great weekend gearing up to Brian's 32nd birthday on Monday.

On Saturday, I planned some particularly naughty activities that I refuse to divulge, other than to say it involved copious amounts of alcohol. I definitely can't hold my liquor like I used to. This is probably due to the fact that I typically only drink once or twice a year, but it was fun, anyway.

On Sunday night we drove up to the Majestic Theatre in Kansas City to see one of our favorite comedians, John Pinette. If you haven't heard of him, you simply MUST click that link and listen to some of his act. He is HYSTERICALLY funny. Brian was laughing so hard he was crying. Me, too, which is saying something, because I typically only smile or snicker a bit. Something has to be really.fucking.funny to get me to laugh out loud.

We arrived late— long, convoluted story which involved my OCD, an unshakable feeling that my house was going to burn down in my absence, and a detour back home which wasted 25 minutes. I attempted to make up those 25 minutes by swapping Brian's car (which is quite fuel-efficient) with mine (which hauls balls and guzzles gas as fast as a frat boy with a beer bong).

Needless to say, we were only 10 minutes late. But I digress...

We arrived late, and as we were standing at the door to go in, John Pinette himself walked right by us. Brian said "Hey! We thought we were too late!" John smiled and told us his opening act was up, and he'd be out in a few minutes. It was pretty cool to meet him in person. (See, having an obsessive compulsive disorder comes can be quite convenient at times! Snort!)

Anyway, he loved the crowd so much that he ended up doing an extended set, so we were there for over 2 hours, which was awesome. Afterwards, we had him autograph his DVD for us. It said "Brian, thx for coming. Now get out of line. John Pinette." *

Bwahahahaha!

On Monday, his actual birthday, I took him to one of his favorite BBQ joints— Famous Daves. We were planning on catching Bourne Ultimatum at the theater afterwards, but we came home and rented a movie instead.

Sounds pretty tame, I know, but for us it was nice— especially lately, with as busy as we've been. "Working weekends" have sadly become the norm.

* His rants against waiting in lines are the BEST.

Taking "flame war" a bit too seriously

This is probably old hat to all of you, but Brian sent me a link a couple days ago and I laughed so hard I almost pissed myself.

Some guy in got into a flame war with another guy online, and it pissed him off so much that he drove 1,300 miles from VA to TX to the other guy's house. All along the way, he stopped at the state borders and took photos of the welcome signs to post online (I heard a rumor that he also posted taunts that he was coming for him, but who knows if that's true or not).

Well, the guy in TX didn't take him seriously, but when VA arrived, he set fire to the guy's trailer and burned it to the ground! (!!!)

That in itself is funny enough, but listen to this— that guy from VA is a 9-year veteran of the Navy who earned several medals during his career, including pistol expert and rifle expert. He is Fire Controlman 2nd Class Petty Officer Russell Tavares, weapons systems operator at the AEGIS Training and Readiness Center.

And the best part? His nickname online was PyroDice.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... Oh FUCK, that's so funny I can't stand it!

The other guy, by the way, was a Vietnam vet who said, and I quote: "Before this happened, the rule was: Nobody messes with the haunted house guy."

Ummm... yeah. If I had to wager a bet, my money'd be on the pyro working for AEGIS than some douche running a haunted house, but maybe that's just me.

Nicole requested another photo of Cheeto, and considering I have millions of those, I am more than happy to oblige. Here's my current favorite, with special guest appearances by Rowdy and Pismo:

Happy 4th of July! ...

And today is our 9 year anniversary, too!

We're going to grill some burgers, drink a margarita or two, and watch the fireworks tonight. Being able to watch a great fireworks display from the back deck is one of the very few perks of living here. And it's not half bad for a small town show, either.

Initial Impressions of the iPhone

iphone.jpgI have the precious! And I didn't have to do any of that stupid shit that all the other people had to do, either— like sleeping at the store all night or waiting 12 or more hours in line. I wanted an iPhone pretty bad, but not that bad. My sister went over to the AT&T store in Topeka just after lunch and waited in line for me until 5 p.m. I paid her 50 bucks for the trouble. Then at 5, Brian and I swooped in, waited just under an hour, and both walked out with 8 GB iPhones. Bwahahaha!

We were actually teasing Brian's younger brother Adam because he had been standing in line at the Syracuse Apple Store since 9 a.m. I was laughing my ass off because he basically had to sell his soul and liquidate a bunch of other gadgets to buy one. I couldn't imagine trying to come up with that kind of money at the age of 18 or 19. Quite impressive. He's shaping up to be just like his brother, and it cracks me up.

Anyway, we came home, activated our phones, and then stayed up until 1 a.m. playing with them. It's just as awesome as I had hoped. Emailing, texting, instant messaging, taking and emailing photos— all a snap. The screen is gorgeous, and web browsing is amazing. I immediately went to all of my own sites and checked them out. Fabulous and functional. Wooo! I even logged into my password protected areas with it. Brian was in there earlier viewing some PDFs, too.

So far I've only found a couple things I don't like about it, but all of them are minor issues (for me, anyway):

  • The web browser doesn't yet support Flash plug-ins. I hate Flash and always disable it, anyway, but still...
  • The volume on phone calls doesn't quite go as high as I would like, though it's been rated as having excellent sound quality, even better than the Treo, Blackberry and other comparable smart phones.
  • Apparently you can't download any of your own ringtones. Not that that's a big deal for me, because I actually found some that I like with this phone, but still... that's kind of a big thing with phone users.

I'm sure I'll post more later as I get an opportunity to play around with it some more, but I'm in love. Completely smitten. Can't keep my hands off of it. It's wayyyyy too much fun.

Oh, and one more thing... I think it would be even cooler if you could connect to the iTunes store to actually browse and download songs. It seems weird that Apple didn't include this, but it's probbably on their to-do list for later revisions. For now I'll settle for the insanely addictive fun of watching YouTube videos.
