Initial Impressions of the iPhone
I have the precious! And I didn't have to do any of that stupid shit that all the other people had to do, either— like sleeping at the store all night or waiting 12 or more hours in line. I wanted an iPhone pretty bad, but not that bad. My sister went over to the AT&T store in Topeka just after lunch and waited in line for me until 5 p.m. I paid her 50 bucks for the trouble. Then at 5, Brian and I swooped in, waited just under an hour, and both walked out with 8 GB iPhones. Bwahahaha!
We were actually teasing Brian's younger brother Adam because he had been standing in line at the Syracuse Apple Store since 9 a.m. I was laughing my ass off because he basically had to sell his soul and liquidate a bunch of other gadgets to buy one. I couldn't imagine trying to come up with that kind of money at the age of 18 or 19. Quite impressive. He's shaping up to be just like his brother, and it cracks me up.
Anyway, we came home, activated our phones, and then stayed up until 1 a.m. playing with them. It's just as awesome as I had hoped. Emailing, texting, instant messaging, taking and emailing photos— all a snap. The screen is gorgeous, and web browsing is amazing. I immediately went to all of my own sites and checked them out. Fabulous and functional. Wooo! I even logged into my password protected areas with it. Brian was in there earlier viewing some PDFs, too.
So far I've only found a couple things I don't like about it, but all of them are minor issues (for me, anyway):
- The web browser doesn't yet support Flash plug-ins. I hate Flash and always disable it, anyway, but still...
- The volume on phone calls doesn't quite go as high as I would like, though it's been rated as having excellent sound quality, even better than the Treo, Blackberry and other comparable smart phones.
- Apparently you can't download any of your own ringtones. Not that that's a big deal for me, because I actually found some that I like with this phone, but still... that's kind of a big thing with phone users.
I'm sure I'll post more later as I get an opportunity to play around with it some more, but I'm in love. Completely smitten. Can't keep my hands off of it. It's wayyyyy too much fun.
Oh, and one more thing... I think it would be even cooler if you could connect to the iTunes store to actually browse and download songs. It seems weird that Apple didn't include this, but it's probbably on their to-do list for later revisions. For now I'll settle for the insanely addictive fun of watching YouTube videos.
